FAQs
What is EMDR?
1
EMDR, which stands for eye movement desensitization reprocessing, is a long-established therapy technique that allows an individual to process traumas or other distressing stressors such as phobias or social anxieties with the help of bilateral stimulation. Bilateral stimulation sends sensations back and forth from one side of the body to the next (Courtney’s practice uses hand held tactile vibration device) essentially allowing both hemispheres of the brain to communicate in tandem, which can lead to the individual to re-processing root cause events and sensations to a more hopeful completion. This can lead to significant reduction in trauma symptoms, fear/panic responses, and negative core beliefs. Please see my resources page for research on this modality.
What is Expressive Arts Therapy?
2
Expressive arts therapy incorporates the use of fine arts, music, and/or dance and movement to allow the client to access deeper more creative parts of the self and develop insight, confidence, and resilience.
What is Somatic Therapy?
3
Somatic therapy allows the client to develop resilience and emotional regulation through the use of techniques that help the client attune to body sensations, increase capacity to hold and release emotional discomfort, and develop personalized grounding, calming, and uplifting techniques. Please see my resources page for research on this modality, which is becoming increasingly popular in healing spaces!
Do you take insurance?
4
At this time I am able to accept Cigna insurance, HSA/FSA benefits, and out of network benefits (I will provide reimbursement forms) for new clientele.
How can I attend one of your group events?
5
Group events are a work in progress! I hope to have them up and running as soon as possible. Until then, please fill out a group interest form in order for community needs to be surveyed.
What does a usual time frame look like for your process?
6
This can vary tremendously based on individual needs! A client who has done previous healing work may benefit tremendously after 1-2 Soul Surge Sessions, while a single incident trauma typically takes 2-3 EMDR sessions and a more complex trauma or relational issue can take several months or longer to process until the client moves into the “maintenance” stage of healing. Some clients attend sessions 1-2x per month for continuation of personal growth, or choose to come as needed should any new issues arise. Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions about this!
